What’s Happening?

Reading: I will be conducting my reading assessments this week. The students will also be taking the STAR assessment on the computers. Copies of these assessments will be coming home with report cards on the 29th.

Math: The students are continuing to practice counting by tens and will also be introduced to the dime. We are working hard at writing the numbers 1-10 using proper number formation.

Religion: This week, the students will learn about the Holy Spirit, our guide. We will also discuss and learn about the Holy Trinity (God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit).

Writing: In writing, I have introduced “Mystery Word” to our writing routine.  I begin by telling the students that they need to come up with a word starting with a particular letter. Then, the students will take turns saying their words. I will write the words on the board and the students will use nice, neat, and proper letter formation while copying down the words. At the end, I will reveal the “Mystery Word (which I previously have chosen). If a student said my “Mystery Word”, then they will get a treat! The “Mystery Word” isn’t always said. However, students learn how to spell words correctly and learn phonics’ rules that come up with different words.

Social Studies: In celebration of Martin Luther King Jr., the class will devote some time to learn about this important historical figure and the “dream” he had for America!

Science: This week, we will discuss different types of “severe weather”, i.e., tornado, hurricane, blizzard, etc. We will also discuss ways that we can prepare for “severe weather”.
