What’s Happening?

Reading: The kinders are making great progress on their pre-primer and primer word lists. These lists are a great way to practice sight words/high frequency words at home as well! If your child has not mastered his/her letters and sounds, please be working on those at home as well.

Math: In math, the students will learn how to count by 5’s. We are continuing to work on the numbers 11-20. If your child is having trouble identifying these numbers in isolation, please practice them at home by using flash cards or number games!

Religion: The students will be introduced to “Holy Signs”. Later in the week, we will discuss and learn about the story of Jesus feeding the 5,000.

Writing: In writing, the students will learn about the 5W’s (who, what, where, when, why) and use these question words in their writing. We will be starting our “Super Sentence” packets this week where we will use the 5W’s to stretch sentences.

Science: This past week, the students and I began a unit on animal and plant needs. This week, we will answer the question, “How are animals classified by what they eat?” In answering this question, we will learn about “herbivores”, “carnivores”, and “omnivores”.
