Weekly News


What’s Happening?

Reading: Over Christmas break, please make sure and practice letters/sounds, sight words, and have your child read his/her decodable readers.

Religion: In religion, the students will learn about and do activities related to the Christmas story and the true meaning of Christmas, i.e., Jesus’ birth.  Later in the week, the students will learn about the “Pine Tree Parable” followed by an art project. On Wednesday, the class will be leading Morning Prayer.

Math:  In math this week, the students will learn about geoboards and geobands. We will identify and create shapes by using the new manipulative. Later in the week, we will review time to the hour and pictographs.

Social Studies: The goal for this week is to wrap up our “Holidays Around the World” scrapbook, so that they can come home in folders on Friday! 

Writing:  The students will be introduced to the three parts of a letter (greeting, body, closing). Then, they will be writing letters to Santa.

Santa’s Visit: Santa will make his appearance on Thursday morning during Morning Prayer! 



Parents, your child made you a special Christmas gift. Please make sure and look for it coming home on Friday.

Christmas Party:  
The Kinder Christmas party will be this Friday from 10:00-11:00 AM. All are welcome to join! 

Spelling:
We will have tests on Thursday this week!

December Art Smarts

What’s Happening?


Reading:  At the end of each day, I read from a chapter book. I have been reading books from the Ready, Freddy series and the kids LOVE them!

Math: The students will continue to practice identifying numbers “before”, “after”, and “between”. We will also review shapes and patterns this week.

Religion:  In religion, the students will learn how God chose to send His son to earth. Later in the week, we will learn about the meaning behind the colors on the traditional candy cane.

Social Studies: This week, the students and I will begin our “Holidays around the World” Unit. The class will not only learn about geography, (i.e., we will look on a map to locate the different countries) but we will also learn about some holiday traditions from countries like, England, Sweden, China, Germany, and Holland. During the unit, the students will be creating a “scrapbook” like project as a take away from the unit. These will come home before Christmas break!

I will be sending home a homework page on Tuesday about your family’s holiday traditions. The “Holiday Tradition” page will be due this Friday!

Writing: This week, the students will learn about opinion writing. They will be writing “opinion” pieces for different topics, such as favorite food and best pet.

Progress Reports:
Progress reports will be coming home in folders on Wednesday. All of the copies are yours to keep. Please sign the envelope and return it to school. Thanks!

Christmas Musicale:
This Thursday is the students’ Christmas concert. Students need to be at the Church by 6:45 PM. Your child will sit with his/her class in the designated spot (your child will know where to go). Thanks so much! Looking forward to a great concert!
