What’s Happening?

Reading:  Due to the shorter week, we will be doing literacy activities centered on turkeys and Thanksgiving in reading groups. Looks for these projects coming home on Wednesday!

Math: In math, the students will learn to tell time to the hour. We will learn about the minute and hour hand on a clock, how to read a clock, and will practice writing the time correctly. We will also be reviewing ordinal position. The students are making great progress on their individualized math packets as well! I am very proud of the progress that I am seeing!

Weekly News

What’s Happening?

Reading: Along with the regular reading curriculum, the students also practice phonics’ and comprehension skills during reading rotations. The circle and square group are working on short vowel sounds and are learning how to sound out simple words with a beginning, middle, and ending sound, i.e., m-a-t. The triangle group is working on digraphs (“sh” and “th” sounds) and finding the main idea in a story.

Math: In math, the students will learn about the penny. We will also begin math packets. Math packets are leveled and allow the students to work at their own pace.

Religion: The students will learn about the parable of “The Good Neighbor”. We will discuss ways that we can show love and be “good neighbors” to others.

Writing: The class loves Pete the Cat! This week, we will be doing some fun writing activities based off of the book, Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes. For example, we will do a sequencing activity and we will make another class book!

Social Studies: We will learn about the pilgrims and the pilgrim’s voyage to America on the Mayflower. We will also learn about the first Thanksgiving. Later in the week, we will watch The Mayflower Voyagers (Charlie Brown). In the video, the Peanuts kids become pilgrims sailing to the new world aboard the Mayflower and endure the first hard winter on Plymouth Plantation.
